From Joe Nadeau and Jim Corey

Bob

I sent an email to Joe Nadeau

I think we should invite Joe and St. Pat's cook to make all of our menu's to complement each other.

Hi Jim,

I do have your "Food for Friends' Blog site address. I also would like to set up a co-ordinated 3 month combined menu for the three groups.

Once I have the five meals scheduled for the next three months how do I enter them into your blog?

As for suggestions for sandwich meats, I wouldn't use cold cuts. I plan on making meatloaf , chicken salad, ham salad, tuna salad, or sliced ham sandwiches or even sliced turkey or sliced chicken sandwiches. The chemicals in deli meats don't go over to big with my nutritionist. Other cold meals I have thought about are pasta salads, egg salads, potato salads etc...etc..

So.... it appears the the first thing to be done is get the list of meals prepared. Because our weekend for October is a Holiday weekend, We also will be making two meals for the 11th and 12th of the month. The hot meal will be chicken pot pie, with roll, and for desert it will be sliced peaches, and cookies. The cold meal will be chicken salad sandwiches, potato salad, fruit cocktail and cupcakes. as soon as I know what it will be in November and December I will let you know. November we will be doing two meals on the 8th and the 29th. So the faster we get this done the easier it will be for all three groups.

Has anyone contacted St. Pats yet?

I will be watching your blog everyday
Thanks again

Hi Joe

Do not know if you have our "Food for Friends" Blog site address yet - try the link below:

http://southhadleygranbyfoodforfriends.blogspot.com/

I would like to setup a co-ordinated 2-3 month combined menu of our three groups - your group, St. Pat's, and our group - so that we may complement each other's menu's.

By listing the names of the meals we would eliminate duplication within the chosen time frame.

Also do have any suggestion for cold meals (sandwiches)? Since we are delivering on Saturday, we would like to add something for Sunday for our clients.

Food and the menu

Hi
A little information to consider for our journey

We are providing for the "Elderly" who have some simple needs - Soft/paliable, low salt/fat/seasoning levels - and a simple "menu" of entree, vegetable, fruit, carb (bread type, ie. sliced, roll, biscuit, dumpling), and dessert.

Plus we are doing this for a Saturday delivery and we should consider a cold meal to be for Sunday. A sandwich with a fruit and possibly another desert.

I have a list of possible Saturday entree's but I'm in need of a few suggestions for the sandwich meal.

I believe this blog will help us communicate with the community and may produce suggestions from the public.

Dear Friends,

Yesterday, I delivered our membership application to the Food Bank for Western Massachusetts where it was accepted.

The membership fee is $100 instead of $125.

We were reclassified from being a program that serves "the elderly" to an "emergency" program.  I'm not exactly sure why this was done, but the good news is that we will receive all of our food free-of-charge through grants from both the state and federal governments.

There will be a training session for our official shoppers at the Food Bank on Friday, October 2 from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.  CATHY AND JIM please reply to this email to let me know if you can attend.  We can send up to three people.  Among other things, you will receive an ID card which will be needed to receive food.  The Food Bank is located at 97 North Hatfield Road in Hatfield (phone 247-9738, Jill Tarr's extension is 134; she will conduct the training session.)

Jill will make a site inspection visit to our kitchen before October 17th.  I'll arrange the date and time with her and notify Cathy and Jim.

We're in good shape and getting ready to GO!

Allan

Update 9-15-09

Charlotte,

Attached is the volunteer worksheet from Sunday at Our Savior Lutheran

In addition to Steve Foster advising us that he is ServSafe Certified and is a chef – he and is wife, Gail, also expressed interest in the kitchen coordinator and shopping coordinator roles – so that should also be discussed with them.
Lisa O’Malley is entertaining the “Kitchen Coordinator” role but I get the sense she needs to work out time schedules with her husband/children…she does plan to attend the October 3 training session.

There are 2 names – Margit Hart and Katrina Dziedzic….where it is difficult to decipher if I have the spelling correct on their names and e-mail addresses – but the telephone numbers are legible.

Kim Paul did not identify what role she wishes to play – I believe she plans to do that on October 3.

Just a reminder – you and your team will want to clarify the training schedule on October 3 with the volunteers from Our Savior Lutheran – as mentioned in an earlier e-mail, the bulletin stated “4PM”…

You certainly have a great volunteer base to work with in this Ministry!

Dear Stephanie,

We had a wonderful morning at Our Savior Lutheran – everyone was very welcoming – Deb did a terrific job with the service – Sarah’s message to the children tied in with Take and Eat’s Program beautifully…11 congregants signed up to volunteer in various capacities…one of those is a chef and ServSafe Certified (Steve Foster) and could be the 2nd Cook…another individual (Lisa O’Malley) is considering the position of “Kitchen Coordinator” – she will be at the October 3rd training meeting.

One thing which will need to be corrected in your next bulletin and perhaps reinforced by an announcement by you is the time of the Training Meeting at Center Church on October 3…the bulletin states that it is at 4PM, but the notes I had from Charlotte states “2PM – 4PM”…

I will be compiling the volunteer lists identifying their contact information and areas of interest and e-mail them to you and to Charlotte…we are enroute to New York and will not be back in the office until Tuesday but I wanted to let you know that we were very pleased to be with your congregants this morning and feel the response to the Take and Eat Program was extremely positive…

Thanks again – we’ll stay in contact and look forward to being with everyone for the first meal on October 17.

Blessings,

Kathleen and Deacon Frank

Dear All,

I've changed our hours of operation to 8:30AM to 12:30PM.

Charlotte's excellent attention to details will clear up the source of
client/friend's names.  Seeking additional names from the Councils on
Aging in South Hadley and in Granby still needs to be decided.  If we
decide to go forward on this, when would be the best time to do it?

Charlotte's volunteer list includes, by my count, about 48 persons, an
impressive number at this time and includes a growing number of
non-Center Church individuals.  More will be needed to top off this
solid base.

There is a new priest coming to All Saints Episcopal Church.  Should we
reach out to them?  If so, by whom and when?

In great hope,
Allan

Hi Cathy,

I did get a copy of your ServSafe certificate from Cathy.

Thanks for the count of refrigerators and freezers.  Bobbie also confirms that we will not be using the refrigerator in the Ryfield kitchen.

We're getting close to finalizing our application with everyone's good help.

Allan

>> Dear Friends,

Here is the second draft of our Food for Friends application to the Food Bank. Thanks to your replies to the first draft, this version is much improved, although, as you will see, still incomplete in a few details as indicated by parentheses. I've identified Center Church as the "sponsoring agency" for the purpose of this application because we are responsible for paying the Food Bank membership fee. Therefore, the names of volunteers from our partner churches do not appear here, and I am not sending this email and attachment to non-Center Church people. What are your thoughts about this approach? We do want to be sensitive to other participants, and it's easy to circulate the draft more widely via email. Please "Reply to All" with your comments and questions about the wording of the application.

In great hope,
Allan

Subject: Take and Eat in South Hadley is getting organized!
Hello All,
You are receiving this email because you have expressed an interest in being part of the ecumenical Take and Eat program in South Hadley and Granby. Several churches, including the Center Congregational Church, the United Methodist Church, the South Hadley Falls Congregational Church, Our Savoir Lutheran Church and the Granby Congregational Church, will be coming together to prepare and deliver meals to homebound members of our community on one weekend day a month.
There have been several meetings recently, which some of you may have participated in, that have brought us several steps forward in getting this effort up and running. I wanted to let you know what we have accomplished, and what is still needed.
Please read the below information, actively solicit coordinators and volunteers from your church, and join us for our
Next Meeting: Wednesday, September 2nd, 7:00pm Center Congregational Church on the common in South Hadley
Take and Eat Logistics
DATE AND TIME
We will be preparing the meals on the third Saturday of each month, in the morning, starting (hopefully) on October 17th. This will be an on-going monthly commitment that we are making to the residents who receive these meals.
PLACE
The kitchen of the Center Congregational Church will be the primary preparation site. On occasions when this kitchen is unavailable, the Granby Congregational Church kitchen will be used. Any specialized equipment can be transferred from the primary to secondary site.
FINANCES
Each church will contribute $50.00 per month to cover the cost of food and supplies. This amount will be adjusted going forward based on our actual experience. Center Church is applying for membership to Western Mass Food Bank, and will cover the $125.00 fee. The application process takes 6 to 12 months, but once received will provide low- to no-cost food to us.
VOLUNTEER LIST
I have attached a listing of the volunteers identified to date. Please take a look at your information, and send me any updates. Also, please circulate information about the program to others you feel may be interested.
We would love to add more names to this list! Please contact me with name, contact information and task.
